Antigonish International Film Festival: Top five picks
/StFX student shares his must-see films for next weekend's festival
The 10th Annual Antigonish International Film Festival opens next Friday, Oct 21. Films will play at three venues on Main Street Friday and Saturday: the Cineplex Theatre, the Town Library, the Town Council Chambers; and in Nicholson Hall 151 on Sunday afternoon.
Attendees may choose from 33 documentary films, but for those who can’t decide, here are my top five picks:
1. The Messenger
Saturday, Oct 22nd: Cineplex Theatre, 4:45-6:15pm.
An artful investigation into the causes of songbird mass depletion.
2. Listening to our Neighbours
Friday, Oct 21: Cineplex Theatre, 12:00-12:25pm.
Antigonishers talk about how climate change affects them and what they are doing to reduce its impact
3. Human
Sunday, Oct 23: Nicholson Hall 151, 1:00-4:30.
A beautiful, wide-ranging and deeply moving exploration of what makes us human
4. The Hand that Feeds
Saturday, Oct 22: Town Council Chambers, 9:20-10:45am.
A union organizing effort in NYC contrasts different advocating styles
5. Facing Fear
Friday, Oct 21: Cineplex Theatre, 7:00-7:25pm.
Two men embark on a journey of forgiveness and reconciliation revolving around homophobia
Admission is $5 for students for a festival pass that gives them access to all films on all three days.
